Tonight I had 16 little browns in 3 of these 5 houses! There were 12 in the middle left house, 2 in the middle right house and 2 in the lower left house. As in years past, the middle left house is the favorite. They all appeared to be little browns so I'm guessing this is my maternity colony starting to return. Before tonight I only had a couple bachelors.

My total number of big browns, all roosting in houses mounted to my home is around 10.

Little brown total is slightly higher than last year at this time.

Big brown total is exactly the same as last year at this time.

Terry, I see venting in the middle left house however, is there anything else internally in this favored house which clearly differentiates it from the others?  Good feedback thanks...

Joe, I think it's the mesh covered baffles, the heighth (approx 40") and narrow crevices between 5/8" & 3/4". It has been heavily used by my big brown maternity for about 5 or 6 years now. It also has some venting on the sides not visible.

Terry, is it the 1/8" black plastic mesh or pet mesh AKA pet screen?  Also I used to have the plastic mesh reversed with the back side of the mesh away from the plywood/wood and the stubly side in direct contact with the wood.  It created a far more grippable plastic mesh.

Joe, what I used was black cross stitch mesh from a craft store.......it is about 1/8" probably a little larger weave than pet mesh. I stopped using it because it's too brittle........but as with pet mesh the bats really like it!

I did not count the bats in this group tonight but did in a bunch of other houses........I had a lot of little brown bachelors scattered throughout other houses. I'm guessing at my home I've got about 40 bats roosting total..... a big jump in the last 2 days with the warm weather we've had..........high of 80 and low of 46.

My uncle's big brown colony a couple miles away had about 20 in it.  I took a bunch of pictures. I will post them soon!
