Hey everybody,
Here is my problem. I have SWARMS of mosquitoes around my house. I was hoping if anyone could tell me if:
A. There are any bats in the Provo Utah area?
B. What kind of bat house is a good one considering we get snow
in the winter.
C. I would also like to know where do the bats go in the winter?
Thanks,
Cycling Fool

Yes there are bats nearly everywhere especially where one is located within a 1/4 mile of year round water. Bats will also live/roost miles from water sources. Nursery houses or bat houses which are larger are best. http://www.batcon.org has bat approved bat houses which have been proven to work with high success. Depending on the species, the most abundant insect eating bats in North America choose to hibernate/overwinter in caves mines culverts etc. The big brown bat often will hibernate in a building or home often in walls ceilings chimneys etc where it finds the right hibernating temperature. What water source do you have nearby. If you have a lot of mosquitos you have water nearby. Is it salt marsh or do you have year round freshwater and if so how large is the source : Hope you consider registering at the forum here. Features include automatically emailing you when a reply is posting on your post. Email addresses are encryted and not known to me the administrator or anyone... cheers joe...

| If you see many bats flying most nights and if you put up well designed bat house(s) you will have a great chance of attracting them. You need to give it one full season ie erecting in summer/fall chances are greater for occupancy the following spring/summer.... at least in the northern 2/3 of the US... :usa:
