Just an update on the "Chiroptorium", the first artificial bat cave near Johnson City, Texas. It had 6,000 to 8,000 bats this spring, about 80% Mexican free-tailed bats, 20% cave myotis. The number of bats has built up very slowly over the years, with up to 2,000 last October, but the Bambergers' success gives credence to the old adage, if you build it they will come! The bats left in May, but will hopefully be back soon.

Fantastic feedback Mark! Nice to see man made bat structures work, particularly the unconventional. With the closing of some mines it is nice to know that we may be able to duplicate/mirror some of the conditions of hibernacula! Below is a quick look at the cave entrance:
