FYI, 2 weeks ago, 2 nursery type bat houses were set up along the trial at Lake Gregory in town of Crestline, CA. see my website on house project. http://www.southcaliforniabats.com

yesterday I went to Big Bear lake and worked with forest ranger, Linda to install the roof shingles on top of bat houses (2 nursery type). The temp was 75 yesterday. Pretty cool.

I was hoping that roof shingle would work on bat houses to retain heat.

Sally I believe the shingle if dark will help more in heat absorption than retention. But having the shingle is better than no shingle at all and of course will help protect the bat house against the elements. Have checked out your site above and enjoyed it!. Looking forward to any information you can provide on success, occupancy and any photos of your bat houses that you can post. I have very little knowledge of California bats and am looking forward to more info about them!
