I am going to be trying the culvert bat houses and doing a lot of experimenting using the wedge design with the baffles in bat houses.

Want to put up a number of the rocket style bat houses using compound miters to get a wedge design .

Bats seem to prefer the wedge design because it is easier for them to climb up in the bat house.

Also I want to try several new ways to mount bat houses to make it much easier to mount the bat houses and take the houses down to inspect or replace.

If any one has any ideas on ways to that make it easier to mount bat houses would appreciate it if you would post the idea or e-mail me.

I am especially interested in any ideas where the bat house can be lowered to the ground by tilting the post or raising and lowering the bat houses on a post .

Great Kent!, would you mind elaborating on the wedge design. What does the design consist of to enable bats to climb easier. Ya I'm always thinking of what might be an easier way to get heavy bat houses up especially at semi-remote locations...

When you make a bat house with the wedge design the baffles are spaced 1 1/4" at the bottom and 1/2" at the top.

Dr. Steve Cross from Oregon who designed the Oregon wedge bat house, made some different styles of bat houses. On one side of the bat houses he used plexiglass instead of wood so he could observe how the bats moved in the bat houses. He may have gotten the idea of the wedge design from rock climbers. When climbing in a wedge you are are able to rest easily by bracing yourself in the wedge. Bats also are able to rest and move around easily in a bat house using the wedge design.Dr. Cross was able to observe this by having plexiglass on one side of the bat house.

I am going to try making a number of rocket boxes with compound miters to get the wedge. I think a wedge rocket box will be a very very successful bat house ,one of the best.

Also I am going to try several different ideas for tilting post to raise and lower bat houses.

Will send you some pictures or videos when I put up some more bat houses this spring and summer experimenting different ways of easily raiseing the bat houses .

Great Kent Thank's, The only concern I have with the wedge design is that the bat might find the right comfort and wedge spacing at a certain height but that comfort foothold height may not be a comfort height for temperature right! Well I guess the proof is in the pudding looking forward to the occupancy results and feedback.
