Hello,
This newbie to your forum has had a problem finding a good mesh for the little critters to use as a gripping surface for the interior of bat houses. Searches of the web and different Bat conservation organizations has yielded some results. In my quest to find some of the suggested materials I accidentally ran across this in the garden center at my neighborhood LOWE'S hardware store. It was supposed to be in the screen doors section. I know that metal screening isn't recommended, neither is fiberglass mesh, but this Pet resistant fiberglass mesh has a very heavy vinyl (or plastic of some kind) coating on it and I believe it may be ideal for the task.
It's called PET-D-FENCE and is a charcoal colored pet resistant replacement screen for doors, and is manufactured by New York Wire, P.O. Box 866, Mt. Wolf, PA 17347. Part # 70587. I paid $13.49 for a 36" x 84" roll of it. I wish it was a little less expensive, but it is enough to do a fairly big bat house and I believe it to be good stuff. I hope you all can check it out and maybe give some feed back on the suitability of this material.
I was so enthralled with it I had to join this forum to get the word out in case it wasn't widely known about already.

I use the exact same brand and type of pet mesh in most of my bat houses. I haven't had any problems with it yet, and one of my houses has approximately 600 bats and young roosting on the stuff. Just be sure to staple it every 2-3" so there is less of a chance of it sagging due to the weight of bats hanging on it.
There are quite a few of us on this site that have used pet mesh with great success.
Welcome to the site!
Nate

Good to hear that it is holding up. It makes me feel even better about using the material. I hope some of the other sites get a hold of the material and give it a thumbs up so people new to this will have less problems finding the right materials.

| I've been using pet mesh for about 3 years now and I feel it is the best baffle surface especially for maternity colonies. If you check out the pictures on this forum you will see it. I'm pretty sure Joe has some good pictures of it on here.
