We have a fairly large cave in our back yard with bats, 2 types I think?
How can I or what can I do to insure their health and protection?

If there is no immediate danger to the cave, then I would say the best thing to do is just let it be, don't disturb the bats, and enjoy their antics when they fly out of the cave.
I am not sure of your location, but if it is white nose syndrome you are worried about there isn't anything yet that can be done. Scientists and researchers are meeting in June to discuss the illness and hopefully figure it out.

Wilddog, do you have any further info on the cave such as:
name designation?
locals that know more about it?
approximate number of bats which are within it? hundreds, thousands etc.

I'm wondering if I'm the only person alive that revived a bat with CPR. [size=A cat had one in its mouth and I grabbed the cat then the cat dropped the bat. I picked the little fellow up, he was laying on his back not breathing so I pressed gently on the bats chest 3 times and it took a couple of breaths and stopped. I pressed again 3 times and the bat did something like a little cough and breathed a couple of more breaths and stopped. I repeated the procedure the third time and he started breathing and turned over in my hand and flew away.]

We are in Harrison County Indiana, the name is Bryant’s Cave. Some of the bat people came last year, sorry don't remember names. This is a pristine private cave and we never allow anyone who is not from a grotto visit. I’m wondering now with all the problems if I should allow anyone in.
Don’t think I could apply CPR on all of them if there is a problem?

Cats and bats. I have had this problem in high winds when the bats get grounded when flying from the roost and cats grab the downed bats. I appreciate cats as a HOUSE pet but don't tolerate them roaming free. If there is a collar on the cat then find the owner and request that they don't let the cat roam free. When they don't have a collar in my neighborhood they get to take an eternal "cat nap" due to my super quiet highpower pellet rifle. I don't advise doing anything illegal or immoral in your area, but cats don't have any business in my yard when they could be getting fat on commercial catfood in someone's house. I know I may see a bit extreme but I don't let my dog run free in other peoples yards, and my cat would never be allowed to as well.
I am not trying to make catlovers angry with this post, but too many cats have been allowed to roam free and reproduce in the wild unchecked.

Madness, wow you certainly lived up to your handle. I am not a domestic animal lover , but recognise that some folks are very attached to "their" animals. Nate only made a comment that I think cat lovers would appreciate. Having feral cats running free in packs in neighbor hoods certainly does not sound like a good idea for cat owners who wish to let their cats out while they watch them. Feral cats can spread parasites, rabies, and many other harmful things to pets.
I do not like dogs or cats loose since dogs chase me on my bike and I have been badly bitten by a dog when I was running. Neighbors cats have had my song birds for dinner!
Please do not shoot Nate's dog in the face.

| Well Madness, your attitude is real bad. It says alot about you. Any cat that does roam in my yard and I'm in the country is shot. Hopefully anyones cat that does roam comes back to their home with fleas. pets should be on a leash, it's law. Man or beast should not roam on private property.

What you said was just fine and very appropraite. My name is Jill and I'm from Wisconsin. Your videos and info is very good. It seems you have done alot of different models. How are the bat houses with the slide thru working out?
I'm currently working with the WI DNR and doing some bat monitoring with a Anabat unit in the Kettle moraine State Forest park. It is so facinating to hear the bats call in real time over the SD1. I am building bat houses, plan to make some more narrow houses with only 2 cells. I have made 3-cell houses.

HI to you also Jill,
Do you currently have any occupancy in your houses? Are the house being installed in the state park where you are monitoring the bats echolocation sounds?
I have been promised a trip to monitor bats with the Florida Bat Conservancy folks but it has not happened yet. Really looking forward to it
