Greetings,
One of Bat Conservation International's cooperators recently announced she had fairly good success last year keeping wasps out of bat houses using diatomaceous earth (DE). During construction, the underside of roofs were coated with a dilute solution of water-based glue, then DE was sprinkled liberally onto the glue. For houses already installed, a 6-inch band was applied using the same method around the landing area and vents.
BCI is interested in any feedback/concerns about this method to control wasps.
Sincerely,
Mark Kiser

Mark that is really good info, For I have had problems with wasps myself a few times before although the Wasps had built the nests at the lower entrance of my nursery houses so they were easy to remove and I did it immediately after their early evening emergence rather than disturb them in their entirety during the day. Touche' and thank's

Here are a couple links for diatomaceous Earth info in controlling Wasps or many insects it appears. The Earth acts as an abrasive scratching the insect and they dehydrate and die:

| Thanks for the good information--I will check out the links to find out more about this soil and get some strips of it on my bat house. I did see one bat in the house since the wasp invasion, so maybe it's not as bad as I thought. The most I have at one time are two bats  but hopefully some day I'll catch up with the rest of you guys!!
