New to the forum glad i found it i thought i was the only one obsessed with my bat houses. Had the pleasure of going to frio bat cave last sunday and see the exit of ten million free tails. I will be going back soon, it was truly a sight to behold. Red tailed hawks put on quite a show picking them out of mid air. Stayed for about an hour and a half and the stream of bats never slowed until bad weather rolled in. at that point the stream of bats turned around and started heading back. Awesome sight.

Welcome!
I'm glad to hear about you being able to see the bats emerge from the cave. I was able to visit Bracken Cave last week, and watch 20 million bats emerge into the evening sky -- what a sight! It makes 200 or so coming out of my bat houses seem really small. Ha!
We so thoroughly enjoyed Bracken that I hope we're able to visit there again.

| Dont have any pictures of my bat houses. I didnt build these but bought one three years ago. Its a three chamber house i mounted on the side of my house about 16 feet high. The first year i had about 15 free tails move in on the first week of march, but they only stayed till mid april and then left. I thought maybe my dogs barking all the time scared them off so i also mounted another one just like it on a pole away from the house. This year i had about 30 show up in the one mounted on my house around the last week in february and about 10 moved into the one on the pole. They did the same thing this year and left out of both houses in mid april again. Is this typical of bachelor groups? Im just glad they show each year for a little while. I enjoy seeing pictures of yalls different houses. I plan on building some different styles this year so they have some options when they return.
