This year I've often noticed that my big brown maternity colony seems to be splitting up and roosting apart.
Sometimes they are split up evenly like 8 in one house and 8 in another. Other times maybe 12 & 4.
This is the 3rd year in a row that I've had approx. 15-16 mothers. In the past they have always roosted together. Sometimes this year they still roost together. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
I haven't seen that, Terry, but this year my Big Browns left in early June due to the unusual heat wave we had. But, I noticed a couple days ago that some of the Big Browns had returned to the nursery colony. I went out this evening to check on them, and there are 6 Big Browns in the house with babies. I was afraid the bats wouldn't use that nursery house since it is mounted so close to the ground -- it is only about 12' off the ground, and I thought it might be too low. But, it is good to see it in use.
