A pond of that size might be too small for them to drink from.................you are probably close enough to the river for a source of fresh water for your bats........Our bats here in the USA forage over a wide area for food and water.

You don't want to build it under your bat house regardless of the size. Pups can fall out of a house, and the mother is usually able to pick them up and get them back in the house. However if there is a pond, or other deep water source the pup would obviously drown.

You have a thoughtful idea, try planning it close by rather than under, but you will need to design it where they have a lot of runway to swoop in and get a drink.

I have a 16*32 inground pool in my backyard and this is perfect for them to come down and get a drink, it is a rather exciting sight when they come down while you are in the pool!

I've also had to rescue a bat one morning that swooped to low and bit the dust, he wasn't too happy, but he let me pick him out and we made a short trip to my bat house where he easily climbed up and dried off for the rest of the day.
