Hey I'm thinkin' about doing a clay or ceramic bat box.   I don't think it would weigh much more than other materials. The interior partitions could be thin.  Anyone tried it yet?

No but it sounds like a great idea.  I've used concrete materials and heat sinks but nothing ceramic or out of clay yet.  Have considered an adobe style bat house.  Doug are you considering a complete bat house made in one step with these materials or multiple steps with clay/ceramic partitions which will be placed inside separately?

I was considering the separate piece idea. Slide things together like a kit or at least the interior could be complete and then slid into the house. a cylinder shape would probably be the strongest option.  It may prove to be a little too fragile/costly/labor intesive... unfortunately.

Here is some info on "bat bricks" in the UK:

http://www.norfolk-bat-group.org.uk/ - click on "Bat Bricks" in the left nav column.

Also under "Bat Boxes" you'll find a photo of a bat house with a slate front panel.
