Hi Gang,
I'm new here posting for the first time and will probably have more questions, but for now...I was wondering if bats attract other bats with a mating call? And if so, would it be possible to re-play those recordings in order to help start up a new colony? I'm also very much into Purple Martins and that is one of the tools we martin landlords use to start-up new sites.
I started working on a 3 chamber house yesterday and hope to have it up this weekend. Plan is to attach it to the side of my house(brick) about 16' up and on the east side. I'm using .5" plywood and the inside dimensions are 30" high by 24" wide. I'm guessing it will weigh around 30 lbs. Any ideas on how to get it secured to the brick?
Also, I was planning to have a trim board all the way around the back side to keep it slighly off the brick. Will bats use that 3/4" space between the back of the box and the brick?
Thanks,
Dale

| Hey Dale. Ya I just put up an awning on brick and it wieghs about 70 lbs. I used a brick plug ( not sure if thats the right term or not ) check your local hardware store. But I think a masonery self tapping screw woud be easiest. Just predrill a small hole and the screw goes right in. Good luck. Regards, Brockbat.

Brockbat,
I bought the blue masonry self tapping screws to use to put up the house. Check out the pics section of the forum to see the bathouse I built. Thanks for your reply and advice.

| Those are called Tapcons. Just make sure you use the right size masonry bit, either buy the box that comes with the bit or read on the package to see what size bit it takes. If you don't use the exact size bit they call for, it will either break while your screwing it in or not hold as it should.
