I was wondering if there is anyone that lives in Northeast Florida on this board that has occupied bat houses. If so could you please give me the specifics of your house ie color, vents or not , sun exposure and the like.

I have put up another house. It's a four chamber, lightly colored and attached to my chimney(northeasterly). I'm trying to figure out what the bats in my area like and I have put this house up in hopes to determine what they prefer.

I would like to try a rocket box next but without any bats in my 3 other houses, I'm not sure the wife will think it's worth the time or the money.

Batman, you may not get a response here but I believe BCI had a list at one time from their North American Bat House Research Project which showed occupied bat houses in the various states. Mark Kiser may have some data to reflect this. Have you seen bats flying in the evening in/near your yard?

Joe, Thanks for the info. I did see one bat last night, in the far distance but that has been it since last summer. The weather has been a bit cool so I'm hoping they'll start coming out more.

Evening bats in the Gainesville area are using white houses mounted in full sun all day.

Free-tailed bats in FL seem to prefer medium or dark houses.
North/South or NW/SE back to back pairs do very well in central Florida, and should work just as well in NE Florida.

Hope this helps.

Last night I was driving down the county road I live off of and saw about , what had to be close to 100 bats. It was about 1-2 miles away from my house. I think the bats fly up and down the road which is surrounded by pine tree Forrest and catch the insects that are attracted by the vehicle lights. It was really neat seeing them swoop down in front of my truck as I was driving.

It's kinda frustrating knowing that, that many bats were/are just down the road. Why can't they find my bat houses  or have they and they just don't like them. :?:
